QDF is proud to offer the
Quebec English
Theatre Showcase
We are thrilled to offer both virtual and live components to this long-standing event, merging traditional methods with new approaches!
WHAT IS THE
PURPOSE OF QETS?
Theatre companies that are members of PACT (The Professional Association of Canadian Theatre) operate under the CTA (Canadian Theatre Agreement) which is negotiated with the CAEA (The Canadian Actors’ Equity Association).
Under this agreement, all PACT companies with a season must hold annual general auditions, to give all EQUITY actors a chance to be seen. QDF collaborates with these companies by organizing a collective general audition, which is open not only to CAEA members but also to non-CAEA members of QDF, as well as designers.
Anyone who meets the criteria below is welcome to submit audition materials or design portfolios, which will be made accessible to professional and independent directors, casting agents, and more.
Selected applicants will have the opportunity to share their artistry in person (via live audition or virtual design presentation) and have a brief introductory conversation with the Artistic Directors from professional companies (Equity engaging and/or PACT). This partially curated meeting creates an opportunity for these directors to foster connections between emerging and/or equity-priority artists, designers of all stages in the career and Equity members.
All applicants will be asked to fill out their Membership Directory Profile with their audition materials (except for their audition self tape) that will be available to other members far beyond December. Our goal is to amplify your artistic voice year-round, making it easier for future collaborators to find and reach out to you.
how does it work?
step 1: initial submissions
All are welcome to submit their audition materials/designer submissions. All submissions we receive will be put in a virtual booklet and made available to professional directors and independent directors.
More specific information on submission requirements and next steps are available on your stream’s page!
Keep scrolling for quick access.
step 2: caea auditions/interviews, discovery series, indie day and designer showcase
After submitting their initial submissions, some applicants (based on the criteria below) will be offered an in-person audition and/or presentation (Refer to your specific stream for more details.)
These auditions/interviews/presentations offer the following opportunities:
CAEA actors in good standing (see CAEA actor page for eligibility) to showcase their craft and share their artistic goals with Artistic Directors. This group will receive scheduling priority.
Equity priority artists (including Black, Indigenous, Artists of Colour, LGBTQIA2S+, Neurodivergent, and Disabled artists, etc.) to be prioritized in showcasing their work and talent.
Emerging artists to demonstrate their growth and audition for companies they may not often have the opportunity to be seen by.
